In Crawford County, a non-profit organization is expanding its services to help out people attempting to get back on their feet.
Common Roots has officially opened the Chris Bell’s Furniture Closet.
“To see this back up and running, is just amazing,” said Common Roots community manager James Campbell. “There is a huge need for this.”
Run by Common Roots and funded by Crawford County Human Services, the furniture closet collects and provides used furniture to people are exiting homelessness or who have a mental health diagnosis.
Sturdy Boots Construction served as the general contractor for the $62,000 project.
“Even leaving homelessness, we want this space to feel welcoming and inviting and comfortable,” said Sturdy Boots Construction CEO Brandon Frantz. “Whether it be people struggling or people that have been taken advantage of by contractors in the area, our main goal is too help these people, make people feel safe.”
The original Furniture Closed operated for over thirty year, however, the program was shuttered after losing its former location.
“There is a huge need for this,” said Campbell. “I operated the furniture closet a few years ago when it was up and running, and there would be lines out the door when I got there. Just a huge need for our community.”
